Luke 7:37-38
“When a woman who had lived a sinful life in that town learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, she brought an alabaster jar of perfume, and as she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them.”

The woman described in Luke is nameless, but she is VERY significant. Her story displays Jesus’ love and forgiveness, and the faith we should have in Him.

This nameless woman was known throughout town for living a sinful life. She was morally unfit and looked upon as dirty. People looked DOWN UPON HER and saw NO HOPE FOR HER. She walked with her head down in shame. No one smiled at her or greeted her. They scorned her, they judged her and pitied her. Although she was unloved by man,she was confident about Jesus’ LOVE for her.

Without restraint, she entered the Pharisees house. She did not speak a word. Her actions told her story of faith. She wept at Jesus’ feet and her tears were so abundant that they were able to wash His feet. Her hair was her crown of glory, but she used it like a rag to clean and dry His feet. Alabaster jars were hand crafted, beautiful and very expensive, but she used the perfume in it to lavish Jesus’ feet. She was not attentive to the people around her. Her thoughts were not consumed with what they thought about. Her ONLY concern was giving Jesus her best

In Jesus’ society, the washing of feet was one of the most important social expectations. The Pharisee, who was esteemed in this society, violated this social expectation because he did not act upon this courtesy. He knew better! Maybe he thought he was too good to wash Jesus’ feet, or didn’t see the importance in it! His stinginess and arrogance placed his disbelief on full display and left him stagnant. In contrast, the sinful woman displayed her faith in Jesus and did not allow the feelings of FEAR, PAIN and SHAME to hinder her from His forgiveness. Her belief saved her

Every time I read this story, I am reminded of how great His love is for us. He loves us in spite of our mess. He uses the unlikely to show His unfathomable love. We do not have to run away from Him or be ashamed. He wants us to run to Him with fearless faith and receive what He has for us. Don’t let others, past sins or doubt keep you from running to the feet of Jesus and giving Him your all!

PRAYER:
Dear Lord,
Thank you for your never ending love for me. Thank you for your forgiveness and your mercy. I know that nothing can separate me from your love. I pray that I am able to have an unbreakable faith that is not hindered by circumstances, but that is made stronger in your love. I pray that I do not lose sight on what is important to you. I pray that I will learn how to abide in you and give you my best at all times. Please help me identify anything that may be hindering me from you so that you may break the chains and restore my faith in You. In Your Precious Name Jesus, Amen.

CHALLENGE:
Have you been making God a priority in your life?
Is there something in your life that you think you cannot bring to God?
Are you judging others instead of displaying God’s love?
I encourage you to Love God, Love Yourself and Love Others.
